Ich Bin Ein Berliner

 

This was my first time ever in Berlin and I had no idea what to expect when out plane landed at the airport. My first impression was that everything looked rather grayish and outdated, but that changed when we entered the center of the city. It was simply delightful and I was running extatically around in the plethora of vintage stores we'd found, not to mention drooling over the dusins of great looking restaurants. I found an amazing vintage store called Made In Berlin and I had to try out all their cool 80s shoulderpad leather jackets and funky tops. They were amazing in a way-over-the-top kind of way. I also fell in love with a store selling absinth. The bottles were a packaging designers dream so of course I had to buy my two favorites. They look like magical viles of emerald water. I had a great first day in Berlin and was very impressed with how friendly people were. I didn't bother to take a lot of pictures on this trip, but I did manage to snap af few for you.

Wonderful Copenhagen: Agnes Cupcakes

I've decided to do a series of posts about my wonderful city, Copenhagen. I've lived here all my life and though I love to travel and see new places, it's always nice to come back to something that's familiar and feels like home. When you've lived in a city for many years, you get to know all the hidden gems and special little places that you don't normally read about in travel guides, and that's the kind of places I want to show you. I'm going to start out with something rather new but also something I'm obsessing about a lot at the moment: Agnes Cupcakes! Denmark is not a place where you can get cupcakes normally, nor do we have the wonderful French macaroons that I so love. Instead we are known for danish pastries and buttercookies, which to me are rather simple desserts that I'm not that into. I'd much rather eat something that blows my mind both visually and on my tastebuds.

And that's why I'm totally obsessed with Agnes Cupcakes, Copenhagen's new go-to cupcake joint. The place itself is very Scandinavian, warm and clean, minimalism at it's best, and the cupcakes are displayed to almost look like colorful little jewels with sweet velvety frosting. They come in a variety of yummy flavors such as coconut, almond, carrot, red velvet, and milk chocolate. There are a total of 30 different flavors served on different days, so you have to go back to get your favorite ones. Every detail has been cared for so the boxes the cupcakes come in are also little works of art, though simple, clean and easy to handle. I'd definitely recommend going here if you're visiting Copenhagen and want something tasty to satisfy your sweet tooth. And remember to check the website if you want to know what day they have your favorite flavor.

Delicious packaging from Route 29

Oh how I wish Route 29 sweets were available here in Copenhagen! Not only is the candy so yummy and delecious, but the packaging is also to die for. Cute boxes and bags with wonderfully whimsical illustrations of funny animals and creatures, accompanied by cute patterns as well as the recognizable Route 29 logo. I'd love to add some of these boxes to my collection! Hopefully I'll be able to one day.

Les Anis de Flavigny

I came across these lovely candies in Galeries Lafayette in Paris. They come in delicate oval tin boxes adorned with beautiful illustrations. Not only do they taste yummy and come in a variety of flavors, they also have a single delicate anis seed in the middle which makes the candies even more special. The story of the Les anis de Flavigny is also lovely and adds to the experience of eating the candies. The packaging can easily be reused as pillboxes, or as storage for small keepsakes.
