Currently Obsessed With: Julie Heffernan

I am first and foremost and illustrator and right now I'm enthralled by the work of New York artist Julie Heffernan. She does the most amazingly intricate and surreal self portraits I've ever seen. I'd love to see her work translated into fashion, maybe as prints or runway designs.

My 15 Microseconds of Fame on 30 Rock

Last summer my fiance and I went to New York to visit my dad and the rest of the American half of my family. I love being in New York as you never know what new adventure is waiting around the corner, be it a gem of a vintage shop, a french pastry bakery, or a gorgeous skyline sunset. It just so happens that my fiance and I got quite the experience when we went to the Rockefeller Center to do some last minute shopping at Antropologie. We are both avid watchers of the comedy show 30 Rock and my fiance in particular was enjoying the fact that we were going shopping at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, which is where the show takes place. Little did he know that when we passed the corner we would find ourselves in the middle of the taping of the second episode of the new 30 Rock season.

At first we didn't know what all the commotion was about but then we spotted Tracy Morgan and the pieces quickly fell into place. We're not easily starstruck but this was a pretty neat coincidence for our last full day in New York. We stood on the sidewalk and watched Tracy do his magic for a while before agreeing to get on with our original plan and go to Anthropologie. Later when we got home we were sitting in the couch with our favorite snacks and watching the new 30 Rock episodes, forgetting about the taping in New York. All of a sudden Tracy comes on and my boyfriend is yelling, pointing at the screen "Look! We're in the background!!". And indeed we were, two tiny little dots on their way to do last minute shopping in the Big Apple. My fiance was easy to spot in his red t-shirt, while I was wearing a pink visar cap. And that's how I got my 15 microseconds of fame in the background of one of my favorite shows in the forever exciting New York.

Back from Limbo

Okay, so I'm back. Sorry I've been away yet again. I ventured to Las Vegas and New York in August and came back to a brand new office at work as well as some cool new colleagues, so I've been terribly busy adjusting to a new schedule and working with new people. I fully intend to start posting again, I've just needed to get a little perspective on my life and routines. I'm trying to do more new and fun things irl and spend less time online, as I find that living an online life can be quite confinding and uninspiring. So I've been very busy working and having fun.

Right now I'm working on a fun little Halloween game that my fience and I will be launcing in a couple of days. This is a private project and has nothing to do with my everyday job, where I'm working on a Fantasy collection for our users. Oh yeah, and the fact that my boyfriend is now my fiance is a vey new thing that happened in Central Park in a row boat. It was very romantic and I'll surely be adding some pics sometime soon to show off my very happy and surprised expression as well as the beautiful surroundings.

Right now I'm surrounded by glowing pumkins, drinking chai from my new Anthropologie mug, and enjoying the warm autumn colors outside my window. This is my favorite season and I'm cozying up with lots of fake fur accessories and knitted sweaters. I hope to add some pictures of my wonderful little corner of the world soon, but for now I'll leave you with my greetings and promise that new content will be added soon! :-D

Here's an example of our Halloween game. This is a WIP so feedback is welcome.

Monster Update

It's been a while since I've posted. I've just had so much to do and been so busy with work. But there's lots to share so I'll just go right ahead.

First of all we've updated our website at work with a new front page design. I have a new design partner, Michal Bendtsen, who's very cool and good at game design. He and I are making a lot of changes for Moviestar Planet so hopefully it'll start looking much better than before. We're also working on a lot of other new things that I'll post in the future. This is the new front page design:

Besides work I haven't had much time to be creative but I did succeed in making some crazy sketches with my boyfriend one night. I'll add them later on. I also tried drawing David Bowie for my kid sister but the results were pretty awful. I have to really remind myself not to quit when I make something that looks like crap. I have to learn from my mistakes and I can't do that if I hide my work away and don't get feedback. So well, here's Bowie made in pencil, watercolor and photoshop sketching:

I've also been playing around with a new photo editing program that I just got my hands on. The results are really good. I'll write more about that later as well. I'll try to update more often when I have more energy. Work takes up a lot of my time, not only during the day but also when I'm off. I just can't seem to let it go. Anyway, here are some of my photos, one of New York and another of Paris. I'll update more soon.

Barnes & Noble Leatherbound Classics

Last summer I went to New York for the first time and one of the places I enjoyed the most was Barnes and Noble. I was there almost once a day looking at all the gorgeous book covers, interesting titles and sipping my hot chocolate while eating yummy desserts. On the first day there I discovered this wonderful series of leatherbound classics that I just had to have. I couldn't of course as they weighed too much and wouldn't fit in my suitcase, so I had to pick just one. I chose the "H.G. Wells - Seven Novels" book and I just love it. It's purple and the graphics on it are all shiny. It's so gorgeous. They're also pretty fabulous on the inside and have wonderful illustrations and gilded pages. Anyway, I want to share these beautiful books with you so have a look.

Things I need to do

Before I start working on my Moments of 2009 posts I want to play around with some things first. For one thing it's about time I start organizing my photos and I also need to draw some more. I was just looking at some of my photos now and wow, New York really was an awesome city. I really hope I'll be going back this year!

Charlotte Russe

When I was in New York this summer I was really hoping to buy a lot of new clothes. I wandered around looking at lots of different shops but didn't really find anything that extraordinary. That was until I stumbled across a Charlotte Russe store. They had beautiful feminine clothes at very reasonable prices. We don't have Charlotte Russe in Denmark but if you're ever in the US you should definitely check out the store. I bought a lot of different items there like girly dresses and lacy shirts. Exactly what I needed for my wardrobe.

Tarina Tarantino

Ever since I came across Tarina Tarantino’s website I’ve wanted to buy some of her amazing jewelry. Unfortunately my budget hasn’t exactly allowed me to. I visited her wonderful and pink store in NYC this summer and literally drooled over all the gorgeous accessories. Unfortunately I had no money left so I didn't get to buy any of the pretty things I so wanted but maybe next time. I'll definitely try to plan ahead in the money department. But for now I’ll let you enjoy some pictures of my favorite items by the lovely pink-haired miss Tarantino.
