A Classy Lady

This is my beautiful grandmother when she was just a young woman. I love her very much and I'm proud to share this gorgeous picture of her. She's always been an incredible woman, supportive, nurturing, caring, the perfect grandmother. I love this photo of her as I think she looks just stunning with her cute curly bangs, long ponytail, painted eyebrows and in a classic black dress.

Style Icon: Ann Margret

♫ ♪ ♫ ♪ Elvis Presley - Viva Las Vegas ♫ ♪ ♫ ♪

Recently I watched Viva Las Vegas with Elvis Presley and Ann Margret. I'd never seen it before and ended up rather enjoying it. I'm going to Las Vegas for the first time in about a month, so the movie really got me in the right spirit of Vegas, as well as make me more familiar with the beautiful Ann Margret. I actually didn't like her character that much, but her outfits were cute and I generelly love the 50s hot chick pin-up look. Ann Margret has a gorgeous face, she's very feminine and sultry, just like a woman should be. She has lots of confidence and seems very cheeky. Her wavy red hair is also a big wow factor. 50s girls looked like they had a lot of fun - especially in Las Vegas!

Fun retro illustrations by Scott Burroughs

I love the work of Colorado based illustrator Scott Burroughs. He has worked at Walt Disney Feature Animation and now works as an illustrator. His art is so fun and colorful and I see lots of 50s and 60s influences. He seems to be especially fond of robots, movies, vintage commercials and sci-fi and I love that. Scott has a wonderful portfolio site full of fun characters and drawings, as well as a cool blog where you can see all his recent work as well as some of his process sketches. Some of his pieces really remind me of I Dream of Jeannie and I'm instantly transported back to my childhood when my mom used to watch the show with me. I hope you'll enjoy Scott's quirky illustrations as much as I do.

Retro illustrations by Paul Thurlby

I noticed British illustrator Paul Thurlby on Flickr, where his wonderful alphabet illustrations seemed to pop up all the time. I immediately checked out his portfolio and it was packed with retro style illustrations that makes me want to watch 50s cartoons and eat caramel popcorn and pizza. I especially love his Space Junk illustration and would love to get it as a print for my bedroom. His alphabet illustrations are also very quirky and something I can imagine myself using to teach my future kids about letters (as well as fonts haha). Paul was also featured in the third edition of Illusive by Gestalten. Have a look at Paul's portfolio for more gleeful illustrations.
